New Skills Academy Launched in Netherhampton with The Vistry Group

Further supporting the Armed Forces Community

Vistry Group, the UK’s biggest house builder, has launched a new Skills Academy in Netherhampton in partnership with us, providing construction training alongside Wiltshire College, and employment opportunities for former armed forces personnel.

The Wilton Gate Skills Academy marks our third initiative with Vistry, equipping service leavers with the skills and qualifications needed for a career in construction. The Academy introduces service leavers to trades and roles within the construction industry and connects participants with direct employment, supply chain opportunities, and further progression or training pathways.

Vistry first launched its Skills Academies in 2017 in response to the construction industry’s crippling skills shortage. According to the UK Trade Skills Index 2024, 1.3 million new recruits and 350,000 apprentices are needed in the construction sector over the next decade if it is going to keep up with targets for new homes and reach net zero targets.

Vistry and Building Heroes have already supported 200 veterans through two Skills Academies they provide in partnership exclusively for the former military community, with 114 of them participating this year alone. Of these participants, 64% have secured employment, 10.5% have pursued further education, and 7% have embarked on entrepreneurial ventures.

Andy Bloxham, Divisional Chair of Vistry West, said: “We’re really pleased to be opening our third Skills Academy in partnership with Building Heroes in Netherhampton. Over the next three years, this transformative programme will equip a significant number of veterans with the skills needed to transition into a career in construction. This helps participants to prepare for a life outside of the armed forces, whilst also contributing to the industry’s wider demand for construction professionals.”

Chris Charles, Chief Executive of Building Heroes said: "Our partnership with Vistry Group is a shining example of how collaboration can drive meaningful change. By opening the Wilton Gate Skills Academy, we are providing service leavers with not just training, but a real pathway to sustainable careers in construction. This initiative embodies our mission to empower veterans with skills, confidence, and opportunities for a brighter future."

The Academy will be located within Wilton Gate - Vistry’s new development of 640 homes, which are for sale via Bovis Homes and Linden Homes.
